Project Overview:
[dezie | dezie ebe o si]This project aims to translate Wikidata labels and descriptions of African indigenous music from English to Igbo, enhancing accessibility and visibility of African cultural heritage on Wikimedia projects. By focusing on African traditional music, we will:
* Improve Igbo-language representation in structured data.
* Preserve and promote African musical heritage in the digital space.
* Empower women through digital literacy training in Wikidata editing.
Project goals:
[dezie | dezie ebe o si]* Translate 150+ Wikidata items related to African indigenous music into Igbo.
* Train 20 participants (70% women) in Wikidata editing and Igbo translation.
* Increase African content on Wikimedia by documenting indigenous music.
* Strengthen digital skills for women, ensuring sustained participation in Wikimedia.
Activities:
[dezie | dezie ebe o si]Pre-Project Research- Compile a list of Wikidata items on indigenous African music (instruments, artists, genres).
Onsite Training Workshop- Introduction to Wikidata, translation best practices, and digital literacy.
Online Follow-up Session - Follow-up on participants and walk them through on the previous training and also respond to any follow-up questions they might have.
Post-Workshop Engagement - Evaluate and review of participants contributions.
