Igbo Wikimedia Awareness in University of Nigeria Enugu Campus

Igbo Wikimedia Awareness in University of Nigeria Enugu Campus is a Wikimedia outreach event aimed at introducing students and lecturers of the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC) to the Wikimedia Movement and Igbo Wikimedia projects. The event will be conducted as a physical, in-person session.

Background

Awareness of Wikimedia activities and Igbo language projects is currently limited within the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC). This initiative seeks to bridge that gap by engaging students and lecturers directly, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to Igbo Wikipedia and other Wikimedia platforms.

Objectives

To introduce participants to the Wikimedia Movement
To create awareness about Igbo Wikimedia projects
To train new contributors on how to edit and contribute to Igbo Wikipedia
To support participants in creating their own Wikimedia user accounts
To increase Igbo language content online
To build a community of Wikimedia contributors within UNEC

Translation edit-a-thon

Account Creation

Participants who do not already have Wikimedia accounts will be guided through the process of creating their accounts. This will enable them to actively participate in editing activities during and after the event.

Edit-a-thon

Participants will take part in a translation edit-a-thon where they will work together to translate up to 50 English Wikipedia articles into Igbo. This activity is aimed at improving Igbo content online and giving participants practical editing experience.

Increased awareness of Wikimedia within UNEC
New Wikimedia user accounts created
New editors contributing to Igbo Wikipedia
Up to 50 articles translated into Igbo
Strengthened presence of Igbo Wikimedia projects
