Naija Book Bank: Cataloguing Nigerian Publications & ISBNs
[dezie | dezie ebe o si]This project involves documenting and Cataloguing Nigerian publications on Wikidata. We will be making use of informations and publications made available on the National Library of Nigeria Virtual page, these includes, Publication titles, Authors name, Publishers name and year of publication, Book Covers including their International Standard Book Numbers(ISBNs) which is one of the few rarely used statements on Wikidata.
Participants will be guided on creating a global Wikimedia user account as well as receive hands-on training about creating and improving items on Wikidata.

Expectations
[dezie | dezie ebe o si]At the end of this project the following expectations should be met:
- Participants will own a global Wikimedia user account to assist in contributing to open knowledge.
- New contributors will learn the basics of creating and improving an item on Wikidata.
- At least 200 Nigerian publications items will be created.
Outcome
[dezie | dezie ebe o si]This project brought about the following positive outcomes;
- Enriching the Nigerian book publications on Wikidata: Through the contributions of these volunteers, a total of 134 new items about Nigerian book publications were created and 1032 valuable edits were made on Wikidata.
- Fostering community growth : This Project have increased our community by bringing in new young learners and volunteers, with a total number of 10 registered participants on the dashboard.
- Improved Volunteer retention: Participants who are part of the newly growing community in this part of Nigeria were taught a new Wikimedia project and were carried along.
