Project Overview

Over the years of organizing Wikimedia projects among nursing mothers, I've faced challenges in ensuring their effective participation due to difficulties with online platforms. Often, they struggle to join Zoom meetings without direct assistance, limiting their engagement with the general community. This project aims to empower nursing mothers in the Ikwerre Community with essential digital skills needed to participate in Wikimedia activities. The training will focus on practical use of the Zoom application for virtual meetings and introducing new participants to Wikimedia projects, enabling them to actively contribute on their own without direct help during and after the training.

Project goals

Train up to 20 nursing mothers with smartphones on how to create account, join Zoom meeting and how to make publish something on Wikipedia

Create new ccounts for newbies

Activities

Celebration of International Women's Day (IWD)

Commemorating women's fight for equality and liberation along with the women's rights movement. International Women's Day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women, this project focuses on bredging gender gap.

Project Timeline

Community Outreach & Registration of new members.

Register interested nursing mothers, digital Skills training (Physical + Practical Session), introduction to smartphones and internet basics

Installing and setting up the Zoom app, joining, muting/unmuting, using chat, and participating in Zoom meetings
Introduction to Wikimedia Projects, overview of Wikimedia and free knowledge

How to create a Wikimedia account

How to join Wikimedia meetings and community spaces simple participation pathways (editing, uploading images, discussions)
