Bot Function

This bot is designed to automatically welcome new users on Igbo Wikipedia by posting a standardized welcome template on their user talk pages.

The bot will:

• Monitor newly registered accounts using the MediaWiki new user logs (using recentchange)
• Check whether the user has made at least one edit before sending a welcome message
• Verify that the user is not:

• an IP address (anonymous user)
• a bot account
• a blocked user

• Confirm that the user has not already been welcomed (i.e., their user talk page does not already exist or does not contain a welcome message)

• Once these conditions are met, the bot will:

Post a welcome message using a predefined on-wiki template (e.g.,

{{Nnọọ}})

Add the message only once per user to avoid duplication

Edit Type

Edits will be limited to user talk pages only and will include a clear edit summary indicating that the message is a welcome from a bot.

Safeguards

• The bot will not overwrite existing talk page content
• The bot will skip users who have already been welcomed
• The bot will maintain a local log of processed users to avoid duplicate messages
• The bot will comply with community feedback and can be stopped immediately if issues arise
