I'm a researcher and statistician with books, patents, published technical papers, and "3457 edits found in 20 projects" (as of 2017-05-16). Most of these contributions have been in the English Wikipedia, Wikiversity, Wikinews and Wikimedia Commons. However, some of these contributions are in Spanish, French and German. (I fixed a syntax error in the Ladino Wikipedia, even though I don't know Ladino.)

I think the most important work I've done to date is summarized in v:Winning the War on Terror. I've concluded the following:

  1. Progress on every substantive issue I can think of is blocked, because every plausible countermeasure threatens someone with substantive control over the media.
  2. I think the vast majority of the world's population would agree with this statement and would ultimately support the right kind of effort to grow Wikinews into a web site that could respond appropriately to this need with an audience rivaling Google and Wikipedia.
  3. If this happened, it could make a major contribution to world peace and broadly shared economic development.

My v:Winning the War on Terror summarizes research behind these claims.

I hope to get official approval for a "Birds of a Feather" session at Wikimania 2017 to discuss this.

At the end of a recent presentation on "incarcerations and the media" to the NAACP of Johnson County, KS, my audience was saying with me, "Yes, we can." (This presentation was a tiny extract from v:Winning the War on Terror.)

Outside of Wikimedia projects, I'm Spencer Graves. I'm a professional engineer[1] with a PhD in statistics and a volunteer journalist with w:KKFI radio.[2] I'm now their Secretary.

I'm working to create an official local news department for KKFI. That requires creating a system that would recruit a good combination of volunteer journalists and funders to pay professionals to edit the news created in part by volunteers. In thinking about that, it occurred to me that it might almost be easier to solve this problem for the entire world.

I'm also founder of "EffectiveDefense.org",[3] promoting research and dissemination of information on the long-term impact of alternative approaches to conflict, and "EndowmentForJournalism.org",[4] hoping to find a way to fund the investigative journalism that the world so desperately needs and that people will want to read, hear, and see.
