Doughty was a member of the Michigan Historical Society, and for several years, she was the secretary of the Mt. Pleasant Library, Literary and Musical Association, an organization of which she was one of the founders. In July 1896, she was appointed to the committee on credentials of the Ladies of the Maccabees (L. O. T. M.) of Michigan.
