In January 2010, a group in Zamfara called Concerned Citizens requested the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the former Governor of Zamfara State, Ahmad Sani Yarima, for embezzlement of funds, including N1.  billion loan for repairing the Gusau dam. [8]
