Asha Haji Elmi with Halima A. Adan.

“I have the passion to see the end to Female Genital Mutilation,” says Asha Haji Elmi (pictured right), a Somali politician and peace activist, and the wife of the Somali Prime Minister. “This issue has always been on my agenda. Because I went through it, I do not want other young girls to suffer the pain I went through.”

Sunday 16 June 2013 is the International Day of the African Child and we’re highlighting voices championing change to end Female Genital Mutilation for girls in Africa and beyond.

Listen to our podcast with FGM experts including Halima A Adan (pictured left), who works in Somalia as the Gender Based Violence Coordinator for Save Somali Women and Children.
